An opportunity to learn the skills of Soft Furnishing  
WE ARE CURRENTLY THE ONLY CENTRE OFFERING THE SOFT FURNISHING COURSE- QUALIFIED AND PRACTISING TUTORS, TWO TUTORS TO THE CLASS 

AMUSF ESSENTIAL SOFT FURNISHING Accredited 1 day per week course: price - on request  

 
Suitable for beginners or those with some background in soft furnishing, textiles or upholstery and those with an interest in the field, this course provides an invaluable pathway into a soft furnishings career. 
 
Students will be taught by a qualified tutor recognised for excellence in teaching, and who is also a practising soft furnisher. During the course students will cover a number of practical assignments building a portfolio of full scale projects, samples and notes that will form the course work required. 
 
Practical and theoretical assignments on lined and interlined curtains, blinds, cushions and track systems are covered and students are encouraged to build a comprehensive technical notebook which will equip them with the confidence to then work independently after the course is completed. 
This course also provides an opportunity for students to develop individual creativity within furnishings and develop an understanding of a wide range of fabrics and their possible uses. 
 
Students will be advised on current legislation for soft furnishings relating to products and students will also be given instruction on business set up. 
 
By the end of the course students will have successfully produced the following large-scale projects: 
 
A pair of full length interlined curtains with a hand stitched heading 
A roman blind with decoration 
A decorative scatter cushion 
A decorative bolster cushion 
A piped box cushion 
Research Bay Window Project  
A portfolio of extensive notes and samples

The work will be assessed by an independent external verifier from the AMUSF. The overall course cost includes fabrics for sampling and other sundries relating to samples. All project work materials required, will be supplied by the student. Students undertaking the accreditation course must register with the AMUSF at a cost of £72. This will also provide additional benefits for students, including discounted fabrics.
