QUALIFIED AND PRACTISING TUTORS

1 YEAR SOFT FURNISHING DIPLOMA COURSE Accredited 1 day per week course: price - on request

Suitable for beginners or those with some background in soft furnishing, textiles or upholstery and those with an interest in the field, this course provides an invaluable pathway into a soft furnishings career.

Students will be taught by a qualified tutor recognised for excellence in teaching, and who is also a practising soft furnisher. We also have another City & Guilds qualified tutor who is available to nurture you through this new on trend course. During your time with us you will cover a number of practical assignments building a portfolio of full scale projects, samples and notes that will form the course work required.

Practical and theoretical assignments on lined and interlined curtains, blinds, cushions, lampshades and loose covers and track systems are covered and students are encouraged to build a comprehensive technical notebook which will equip them with the confidence to then work independently after the course is completed.
This course also provides an opportunity for students to develop individual creativity within furnishings and develop an understanding of a wide range of fabrics and their possible uses.

Students will be advised on current legislation for soft furnishings relating to products and will also be given instruction on business set up.

By the end of the course students will have successfully produced the following work for assessment:

A pair of full length interlined curtains with a hand stitched heading
A roman blind
A decorative scatter cushion
A bolster cushion
A piped/topstitched box cushion
A lampshade
A loose cover for a dining chair
A portfolio of extensive notes and samples
